in memory of yves saint laurent YSL

how do you mourn for someone you never knew? i am not a celebrity startstruck teenager... but i am really sad about the death of yves saint laurent. i imagine myself at his service today in paris...like coco chanel for me he was part of the essence of paris. paris=fashion. seventy one is soooo young. without illness he could have continued to create. never having met him... but always reading, watching and growing up with his fashion had impact on my life... remember the hemline of my mothers skirt was dictated by his design for the seasons... the smell of opium. i had a sense of him i like to think. his retirement saddened me. with death there is no possibility of his return.... i just hope his life was even for a moment as fabulous as it appeared in print.

“The most beautiful clothes that can dress a woman are the arms of the man she loves,” he once said. “But for those who haven’t had the good fortune of finding this happiness, I am there.”
